Further education programme SONAR

Advancing the sonographic expertise of rheumatologists

In the diagnosis and management of inflammatory rheumatic joint diseases, ultrasound examination is a proven method. The performance and interpretation of ultrasound screenings are contextual and need considerable expertise, technical skills, and continuous practice.

In order to maintain and strengthen knowledge in this field, SCQM has created the Scientific Commission "SONAR". The aim of "SONAR": active research in the field of musculoskeletal ultrasound screening using the SCQM and organising and leading workshops for the further training of rheumatologists in the field of ultrasound screening in Switzerland.

Special access authorisation within the SCQM database

Specialists who have attended SONAR continuing education courses receive access authorisation for the ultrasound areas within the SCQM database. Here, the ultrasound joint scores for rheumatoid arthritis (SONAR) and axial spondyloarthritis (SONAR Hip) can be entered and compared with previously performed ultrasound examinations. Individual enquiries regarding access authorisation can also be addressed directly to PD Raphael Micheroli, MD (raphael.micheroli_at_usz.ch).

The ultrasound joint scores also appear on the scoreboard after they have been entered in the SCQM database. This ensures that all doctors involved have the latest information, even if several specialists are treating the patient.
